KC Home Solutions - 2015 Review and 2016 Resolutions

So today is the last day of 2015 and it's been a GREAT year for us...and we hope much of the Kansas City area! We thought it would be good to review a few things and make some 2016 resolutions. So here we go.

2015:

First and foremost, the Royals won the World Series! The Chiefs are in the NFL Playoffs and it's the first time they both have made the postseason the same year...EVER.

We (KC Home Solutions) had our BEST year ever, setting records for total volume business...thanks to all of you! So what did we end up doing?

5 Kitchen remodels, 30+ master bathroom, basement and guest bathroom remodels, 22 basement finishes and 5 home additions and house builds!

We also won the 2015 Angie's List Super Service Award in the categories of Basement Remodeling, Kitchen & Bathroom Remodeling and General Remodeling. That marks our 2nd year in a row to win those awards. Now we know what it feels like to be the Royals (they have won back-to-back American League Championships) it's the same, right? Enh, close. The boss probably won't buy us cool rings (bummer).

Can't wait to see the World Series Championship ring...we loved the 2014 AL Championship rings for the Royals!

Thanks to all our subcontractors and all of the people who work behind the scenes that you may never notice. That includes (in no particular order) All Dimensions Flooring, Central States Tile, KC Wood, Kitchen & Bath by Briggs, McCray Lumber, Petty Products, Stillwell Heating & Cooling, DWG Drywall, Teague Electric, HP Tile, LRW Plumbing, Ferguson Plumbing Supplies and everyone involved with all these great companies.

2016:

Well I HOPE to be writing about a Chiefs Super Bowl Championship this time next year...another Royals World Series would be great too!

We have some lofty goals for our company starting TOMORROW. We are hoping to continue to double our totals (we've done it every year we've been in business). Not saying that we will but that's what a goal is for, right?

We are going to continue to work hard to improve our processes and keep giving everyone quality results. We really feel that our attention to detail, treating everyone respectfully and not rushing projects is the best way to do business. Speed in projects (like on TV shows) is great, but there's a lot to be said about making sure it's done right the first time.

We want to continue to set ourselves apart from the other contractors out there. Whether that's through design, attention to detail (big and small), or providing information to people who need help. We may not be the lowest bid you'll get but if you have a question you need help with, even if you did not choose us, don't be afraid to ask.

Check out our booth at the Johnson County Home + Garden Show in January 22-24 as we go for back-to-back awards for "Best Use of a Small Space". Happy New Year! We hope to work with all of you in 2016!

Just. Say. NO! - What Would We Do Wednesday

Look up right now. Go ahead, we'll wait. What do you see on the ceiling above you? Is it THIS?

Unless your home was built after 2000, and even maybe then, you likely have popcorn on your ceiling. Ok so not the yummy goodness you see above. But rather this...

I would venture a fair bet that over 80% of homes in the United States have popcorn textured ceilings. It was all the rage on ceilings for, well, almost forever. But it's something that has FINALLY fallen out of style and NO you don't have to just deal with it.

So what would we do? What can be done? Simple. That stuff comes off! Now, with that said, it's typically a huge mess and quite honestly it's not that fun to do. You have to start by putting down a ton of plastic sheeting to catch the stuff. You'll also want to make sure an wear eye and face protection, you do not want to breathe or eat it. Just because it's called popcorn doesn't mean it's good!

The actual removal isn't too difficult. You'll need a spray bottle filled with water and a flat blade or some kind like a floor scraper or mudding trowel. Spray the texture area you want to remove, give it a minute or so and then use the flat leading edge to scrape it away. Be mindful of sheetrock joints and other places the scraper could catch.

What do do after removing the popcorn? Well the easiest option would be what we call a knockdown finish. So people will call it an orange peel finish. Here's the look:

All of our new ceiling installations have a knockdown finish unless otherwise noted. Of course the other option would be the smooth finish, the same as what's done on walls. It's a very clean and crisp look, needless to say, but it is more time consuming to install and therefore more expensive on the pocketbook.

So if you're tired of seeing popcorn everywhere you go give us a shout, we have a great group of guys dedicated to helping us help you remove popcorn from your home. Remember, edible popcorn good...ceiling popcorn bad.

How to get an estimate for your project from KC Home Solutions

You have probably heard the phrase, "the first step is the most difficult" or a something similar. When it comes to getting a bid from KC Home Solutions, we make each step past the first the easiest of them all, well, next to sitting back and letting us do all the work. So what IS the process for getting a bid or estimate from us? Let's walk through it.

Step 1: Decide that you want to take on said project and get a basic idea of what you would like to accomplish

Step 2: Contact us using the Request A Quote tab on our website, call us or email us to let us know you would like us to visit your home to talk about your project

Step 3: Give us the details about your project during an in-home visit from a KCHS representative

Step 4: Get a custom bid/proposal from us following your in-home visit

Step 5: Accept the bid/proposal

See, now that wasn't as difficult as you thought it was going to be was it? You'll likely spend more time deciding to start the project than it does to go through steps 2 to 5. If you are ready for step 2 let us know, we would love the chance to earn your business!
