I'll bet you didn't know that today is Earth Day. Oh you did know? Well you may have seen a few (thousand) people mention it on TV or a social media site. Beyond all of the tree planting and what-not, there are options and things you can do to make your home more efficient. Long term some of these things can reduce your energy use and in turn, save you money. KC Home Solutions wanted to do our civic duty and help out, here is something you could check out today.
Some older homes may or may not have insulation in the attic. Some very old homes may not even have insulation in the walls at all, although that can be rare. It may not be the best idea to knock a hole in a wall and check, so how can you find out? The easiest way is to pop your head up in to the attic of your home. What do you see? Does it look like the picture above? Maybe there isn't anything at all? What options are available?
We recommend R40 spray foam insulation. It is more expensive than standard roll insulation but the best part is that it expands to cover all areas, seams and gaps when sprayed in. One other thing to check before you put this product in are the soffits and baffles in the attic. You could have the best insulation but if your attic does not have proper air flow it can heat up in the summer or retain cold air in the winter.
